Job Description

A specialist hospital is seeking an ophthalmologist trained in Neuro-ophthalmology . The doctor should be able to assess a patient from both a functional and cosmetic perspective. The evaluation may include an exam of the orbital and eyelid tissues, as well as discussion with the patient regarding appearance after treatment.

Requirements

  • MD
  • Board-certified in Ophthalmology or Neurology in the country of origin (American Board, FRCS or equivalent)
  • Undergone training in a Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship Program or “evidence of at least 5 years in handling patients with neurophthalmologic problems for those board certified in Neurology.”
  • At least three (3) years working experience after the specialization
  • The candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence and have a track record in teaching and research.
  • Must qualify to be classified as a Consultant by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties
  • Candidates from Spain and South America can be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Neuro-ophthalmology focuses on diseases of the nervous system that affect vision, control of eye movements, or pupillary reflexes.
  • Neuro-ophthalmologists often see patients with complex multi-system disease and “zebras” are not uncommon.
  • Neuro-ophthalmologists are often active teachers in their academic institution, and the first four winners of the prestigious Straatsma American Academy of Ophthalmology teaching awards were neuro-ophthalmologists.
  • Neuro-ophthalmology is mostly non-procedural, however, neuro-ophthalmologists may be trained to perform eye muscle surgery to treat adult strabismus, optic nerve fenestration for idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and botulinum injections for blepharospasm or hemifacial spasm.
